Dig sites are where you get your dino fossils and amber required to make dinos. There are 9 different dig sites. Each holds 3 different species in each site. On the PC and on the xbox you can unlock 5 different sites while on the playstation 2 you can only get 3. On the PC, it is possible to unlock all 9 sites as well as more dig teams through the use of editing game files, however it only applies to new parks that are made after the editing.

Trivia[]

  • All the dig-sites featured are real.
  • Brachiosaurus and Pachycephalosaurus are the only dinosaurs that can be found in two sites.
  • Some of the dinosaurs are in the wrong sites: Tyrannosaurus and Ankylosaurus are found in Hell Creek, not Judith River. Likewise Parasaurolophus is not found in Hell Creek. Acrocanthosaurus, Dilophosaurus, and Ouranosaurus are also misplaced (Acrocanthosaurus being from the Cloverly Formation in Wyoming, Dilophosaurus hails from the Kayenta Formation in Arizona, and Ouranosaurus is discovered in Elrhaz Formation in Niger), but this is justified in that they're the only ones from their respective times to be included in the game.
  • The in-game Hell Creek Formation A combines elements of two dig sites from Wyoming and Utah each: Cloverly Formation in Wyoming (where Acrocanthosaurus is discovered) and Kaiparowits Formation in Utah (where Parasaurolophus is discovered). Torosaurus is discovered in the Lance Formation in Wyoming and North Horn Formation in Utah.
  • The in-game Flaming Cliffs combines the two dig sites in Gobi Desert: Djadokhta Formation (where Velociraptor is discovered) and Nemegt Formation (where Gallimimus and Homalocephale are discovered).
  • The in-game Judith River Group A combines two dig sites in Alberta: Horseshoe Canyon Formation (where Albertosaurus is discovered) and Scollard Formation (where Pachycephalosaurus and Ankylosaurus are discovered).
  • The in-game Judith River Group B combines Dinosaur Park Formation in Alberta (where Corythosaurus and Styracosaurus are discovered) and Frenchman Formation in Saskatchewan (where Tyrannosaurus is discovered).
  • Apart from bones and amber, dig-sites also contain gold, silver and opals, which can be sold for money.
